ASI expands scope of Hydro Aluminium Extruded Solutions ASI Performance Standard Certification
Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that seven additional Hydro Aluminium Extruded Solutions operations have been successfully certified against its standards for responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium. In Extruded Solutions, Hydro has the largest global aluminium extrusion-based solutions operation in the world, producing applications for windows, doors, electronics, transportation and thousands of other product areas.
The original certification audit scope covered the Hydro Aluminium Extruded Solutions for the extrusion and fabrication of aluminium profiles at the sites in Bellenberg (Germany), Lichtervelde (Belgium) and the corporate office (Norway). The scope was then expanded in September 2019 to include activities at the Hydro Aluminium Extruded Solutions sites Lichtervelde Precision Tubing (Belgium), Toulouse (France), Rackwitz (Germany), Uphusen (Germany) and Nenzing (Austria). The total number of ASI Performance Standard Certified Hydro Aluminium Extruded Solutions facilities now totals fifteen.
The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain. It sets out 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Governance, Environment and Social, which address key issues such as biodiversity, Indigenous Peoples rights, and greenhouse gas emissions. The independent, third-party audits of the Extruded Solutions operations were carried out by DNV GL.
