Process Overview

The ASI standard-setting process is based on face-to-face meetings of the ASI Standard Setting Group and open multi-stakeholder consultation periods.

The Standard Setting Group (SSG) is leading the development of the ASI Standard. With a balanced representation of industry and non-industry stakeholders, the SSG meets periodically to review the various drafts of the Standard and any comments received during the public consultation periods.

The main responsibility of the SSG members is to contribute their expertise on all sustainability aspects of the ASI Standard and mobilise their networks of organisations and experts prior to the SSG meetings and during public consultations.

The SSG, through the two appointed co-chairs, also approves the stakeholder outreach programme that will be implemented during the two 60-day public consultation periods, implements the complaint resolution mechanism related to the standard-setting process, and addresses any problems related to the standard-setting process.

2015 Activities

After working on the ASI Performance Standard (Principles and Criteria) and the ASI Chain of Custody Standard in 2014, the SSG will focus in 2015 on the development of Indicators, Means of Verification and Guidance Notes.

Anyone with an interest in the aluminium value chain can contribute to the process through commenting during consultation periods, or contacting IUCN or ASI directly.
