Tianjin Zhongwang Co., Ltd. has achieved ASI Performance Standard Certification for production of aluminium and aluminium alloy casting ingot, sheets and strip products. The facility’s products are destined for applications in the automotive, aerospace, ship building, rail and packaging sectors.

Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that Tianjin Zhongwang Co., Ltd. has been successfully certified against the ASI Performance Standard for its Tianjin operations, which includes casting, hot and cold rolling, finishing and annealing with outputs of ingot, thick plate, sheet and coil products. The plant covers an area of 6 km2 and has an overall annual production capacity of 1.8 million tons.

The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain. It sets out 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Governance, Environment and Social, which address key issues such as biodiversity, Indigenous Peoples’ rights, and greenhouse gas emissions.

The independent, third-party audits of the Tianjin Zhongwang Co., Ltd. facility was carried out by TÜV Rheinland Cert GmbH.
