ASI's Standards Revision runs from March 2025 through to early 2027. This is your guide to understanding, following, and engaging with the process
March 3, 2025: ASI launches revision of its standards – continuing to drive responsible production, sourcing, and stewardship in the global aluminium value chain.
Timeline
As a code compliant member of ISEAL and in line with the ISEAL Code of Good Practice ASI is committed to reviewing its standards at least once every 5 years. Between September and November 2024 ASI carried out a full review of the ASI Performance Standard and the ASI Chain of Custody Standard. The review recommended a full revision, of the Standards as well as the ASI Claims Guide. The ASI Standards Committee and Board endorsed the recommendation, and the Revision process runs from 3 March 2025 through to early 2027. Use our interactive timeline below to follow the revision process and ensure you don’t miss an opportunity to engage!

ASI Standards Revision: the What, Why and How
ASI’s continued ambition, as it reaches its 10th anniversary is to drive responsible production, sourcing and stewardship in the global aluminium value chain. Regular revisions of our standards and certification program are key, if we are to enable continuous improvement in the sector.
Since 2022 our Guidance and other supporting documents have gone through frequent updates to support implementation, reflect new regulatory frameworks, clarify key issues and incorporate new resources.
This latest revision, launched on 3 March 2025 follows a full review of our standards and we are taking the opportunity to develop a new generation of voluntary standards system in a changing landscape.
- Enable greater differentiation; recognising different performance levels and creating pathways for continuous improvement;
- Further strengthen credibility of the standards and related assurance;
- Improve the relevance of criteria, focusing effort on the most critical areas;
- Strengthen focus on priorities for Indigenous Peoples and other traditional communities;
- Enhance the value to ASI Members through certification;
- Improve alignment with other standards;
- Renew focus on impact.
For further detail please see the Terms of Reference for the Revision.
ASI conducts standards development and revision processes in accordance with the ISEAL Alliance Code of Good Sustainability Systems. This includes multi-stakeholder public consultation and decision-making processes which represent a balance of interests. Revisions are overseen by the ASI Standards Committee, with input supported by technical Working Groups for key topics. Changes to ASI Standards must be adopted by the ASI Board.
