Representatives from industry, civil society, Indigenous Peoples and affected communities gathered over several days in person in June for a meeting of the ASI Standards Committee, in order to advance on the ongoing revision of ASI’s Standards.

The meeting was an important opportunity for Committee members from different regions, sectors and perspectives to engage with one another in person as they considered feedback from the first public consultation. Discussions focused on understanding stakeholder input, exploring the implications of different approaches and identifying areas requiring further technical input and analysis.

A particular highlight was the participation of Indigenous Peoples Advisory Forum (IPAF) representatives on the Standards Committee from bauxite regions and the consideration of broader perspectives from affected communities, informed by an extensive community engagement process conducted by IPAF across several countries. The meeting also welcomed newly elected Standards Committee members from China and was enriched by remote contributions from several Committee members unable to travel.

Throughout the meeting, participants worked collaboratively to explore complex issues, consider potential unintended consequences and identify practical pathways forward. While a number of topics remain under development, the discussions helped build a stronger shared understanding of key issues and provided direction for the next phase of drafting and review. The next draft documents are planned for release for a second consultation in early 2027.
