Collaboration, resilience and the future of responsible aluminium were central themes at the 2026 ASI Annual General Meeting, where members had the opportunity to discuss the evolving challenges and opportunities facing the global aluminium value chain.

The Board Chair opened with an overview of the organisation’s 2025 results, and highlighted outputs from ASI’s Certification and ‘Beyond Certification’ workstreams. An interactive discussion panel with Board Directors reflected on ASI’s positioning within a dynamic global landscape, and how to retain its credibility, relevance, distinctiveness and impact.

The AGM also featured a keynote presentation from Alan Clark of CM Group, who explored how geopolitics, trade tensions and raw material scarcity are reshaping the global aluminium value chain. Drawing on developments across the entire value chain, from bauxite and alumina through to recycling and downstream manufacturing, he examined the implications for markets, supply chains and sustainability, highlighting both the challenges and opportunities facing the industry in the years ahead.

A major focus of the meeting was progress on ASI’s ongoing Standards Revision, which will shape the next generation of ASI’s Performance and Chain of Custody Standards. Members received an update on the first public consultation, the breadth of stakeholder participation and the next steps in developing revised Standards that are ambitious, yet practical, auditable and responsive to the evolving needs of the aluminium value chain. Four Standards Committee members reflected on the process to date and the issues ahead to be tackled from their perspective.

In her CEO update, Fiona Solomon reflected on the increasingly interconnected nature of business resilience and sustainability, highlighting five areas where ASI is working to deliver both impact and member value: decarbonisation, circularity, digital workflows, witness assessments and the complaints mechanism. Together, these initiatives demonstrate how ASI is supporting members through practical tools, credible assurance, collaboration and innovation while helping to strengthen more sustainable and resilient supply chains.
