LME full recognition of ASI Performance Standard V3

ASI is pleased to announce that the ASI Performance Standard V3 has achieved full recognition under the London Metal Exchange (LME) Response Sourcing Framework, fully meeting LME ‘Track A’ requirements for both the standard and its implementation.

TDi Sustainability, an LME-approved alignment assessor, undertook the assessment of the ASI Performance Standard against the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas (OECD Guidance) between 2021-2026.

The purpose of the assessment was to determine the extent to which the ASI Performance Standard aligns with the OECD Guidance and whether it may be recognised by the LME as an acceptable due diligence framework for LME-listed aluminium brands.

The assessment considered both:

• The alignment of the ASI Performance Standard and associated guidance documents with the OECD Guidance (“Policies and Standards”); and
• The effectiveness of implementation by ASI through its assurance, oversight, and audit processes (“Implementation”).

Conditional approval was already achieved in 2022, and full, unconditional approval has now been confirmed following the completion of the implementation portion of the OECD Alignment Assessment. The full ASI Alignment Assessment Report can be found here.

LME Brands for aluminium can use ASI Certification against Performance Standard V3 to demonstrate compliance with the LME’s Responsible Sourcing requirements.

As part of the current ASI Standards Revision process, ASI has committed to maintaining alignment with the LME’s ‘Track A’ requirements. To preserve this alignment, no changes are proposed to Criterion 9.8, ‘Sourcing from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas.’ ASI is also using the gaps and opportunities identified through the OECD Alignment Assessment to expand and strengthen existing criteria.
