Since the ASI Standards Revision formally launched in early March, significant work has been carried out to develop initial revised drafts with input from our six thematic Working Groups. These early drafts were shared over July and August with technical experts, civil society organisations, and auditors to provide critical early input back to the Working Groups. Special thanks to our ASI Certified Entity volunteers who took part in an early ‘feasibility assessment’ to rate how challenging it might be to implement new requirements. This rich set of feedback was shared back with the Working Groups and ASI Standards Committee in early September to further refine the draft standards.
Over September and October, the Standards Committee came together in a series of online workshops to review the latest drafts and to discuss controversial, high-priority issues to focus on for future public consultation. The Standards Committee also agreed to explore and consult on different certification options for downstream entities, which emphasize the most material issues for the downstream part of the value chain.
Eight months into the revision process, it has also been a good opportunity for the Standards Committee to review progress against the objectives set against the Revision. Although there remains a lot of work to do, there was a sense that we are headed in the right direction. The anticipated timeline is likely to see a first phase of public consultation launch in Q1 2026 on both the revised Performance Standard and Chain of Custody Standard.
Wrapping up the ASI Working Groups
In parallel to the Standards Committee discussions, the thematic Working Groups are wrapping up their work for this first phase of the revision. A big thank you goes out to the members of the Working Groups. Their input has been extremely valuable to the process; the detailed discussions amongst industry and civil society peers in the sector, all of whom have a stake in the standards, have ensured that the revision remains grounded in the practicalities of implementation. Their work is only finished for this phase of the revision, and we look forward to reconvening them for a shorter period in 2026 to consider the outcomes of the first public consultation.
Public webinars (12 November 0900 & 1600 CET)
On 12 November we will hold two public webinars (0900 with Chinese interpretation & 1600 with French interpretation). Hear from ASI Standards and Assurance Teams on the revision and you will have the opportunity to give you views and ask any questions.
