ASI certifies three Novelis facilities in North America against Performance Standard
With capabilities spanning remelting and recycling through to cold mill processing and finishing, these facilities produce a range of rolled aluminium products for several downstream applications.

Novelis has achieved ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) Certification at three of its North American production facilities in Kentucky and New York, USA and Ontario, Canada. With capabilities spanning remelting and recycling through to cold mill processing and finishing, these facilities produce a range of rolled aluminium products for several downstream applications.
Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that Novelis has been certified against the ASI Performance Standard V2 at three of its facilities in North America. The Kingston plant in Ontario, Canada performs cold mill rolling, coil slitting, coil finishing, and annealing. The Oswego Works facility in New York, USA conducts remelting, recycling, casting, hot mill rolling, cold mill rolling, and coil finishing of aluminium products. The Guthrie plant in Kentucky, USA focuses on the hot milling, pre-treatment, and finishing of aluminium products. The plants’ outputs are destined for use in automotive, beverage can, building and construction, marine, transportation and industrial applications.
The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain. It sets out 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Environment, Social, and Governance, which address key issues such as biodiversity, Indigenous Peoples rights, and greenhouse gas emissions.
The independent, third-party audit of the Novelis North America plants was carried out by DNV Business Assurance Services UK Ltd. The audit took place prior to May 31, 2023, thus enabling a Performance Standard V2 certification. No non-conformances were identified.
