Anne Riudavets Lee, Marketing Director at CASS, Inc, provides some insight on meeting clients’ responsible sourcing goals through their innovative, chlorine-free, closed-loop recycling & manufacturing process.

Leading the Industry Through Sustainability and Best Practices

At CASS, sustainability is not just a goal—it’s a responsibility we embrace in every aspect of our business. By integrating innovative and responsible manufacturing, we are shaping a future where environmental stewardship and operational excellence go hand in hand.

Joining the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) was a natural extension of our commitment to progress. As Northern California’s first certified aluminium manufacturer and Nevada’s only secondary aluminium producer, we continue to raise industry standards for sustainability.

Driving Progress Through Certification

Our journey toward ASI certification confirmed our existing commitments such as chlorine-free manufacturing and circularity, while also identifying opportunities to strengthen our impact. Strengthening our approach to tracking greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and energy use helped us refine reduction goals with greater precision, turning intent into measurable action.

Certification also wasn’t just about meeting a standard—it was about evolving as a company, ensuring our operations align with our mission and the expectations of our clients and stakeholders.

Advancing Sustainable Operations

Sustainability means constantly seeking ways to reduce our environmental impact. Transitioning our fleet to renewable diesel was a natural step in this pursuit, significantly cutting emissions while maintaining efficiency.

Workplace safety is equally important. Achieving ISO 45001:2018 Certification reinforced our commitment to the well-being of our employees and the communities in which we operate.

We also continue to strengthen responsible sourcing through supplier assessments, ensuring that every material entering our process aligns with our values. This commitment reinforces trust while upholding the integrity of our closed-loop process, where end-of-life metals are transformed into high-quality aluminium alloys.

Commitment to Community and Responsibility

At CASS, we believe progress should be shared. Ethical labor practices, fair wages, and professional growth opportunities ensure that our employees thrive in a safe, supportive workplace. Access to comprehensive training and healthcare reflects our investment in their well-being.

Beyond our operations, we are committed to being a positive force in the community. From regular street cleaning and beautification efforts to environmental initiatives that support responsible waste management, we seek to improve the spaces we call home.

Sustainability isn’t just about what we produce—it’s about how we support the world around us.

Creating Value for Clients

Collaboration is essential to meaningful change. By working with suppliers and clients, we help drive a shared commitment to sustainability across the aluminium value chain.

Our chlorine-free, closed-loop process offers clients an opportunity to reduce supply chain emissions, meet ESG goals, and align with evolving industry standards. Our rigorous supplier assessments further ensure that all materials meet the highest standards for responsibility and accountability.

Together, we are building a network of companies striving for progress—because safeguarding society and supporting nature is a responsibility we all share.

Looking Ahead

Sustainability is an ongoing journey, and we remain focused on scaling renewable energy, advancing technology, and fostering transparency in every aspect of our operations.

By continuing to push boundaries alongside our partners, clients, and the broader aluminium industry, we are shaping a future where doing the right thing isn’t just an option—it’s the standard.
