About Sohar Aluminium Company LLC
Sohar Aluminium was formed in September 2004 to undertake a landmark Greenfield aluminium smelter and has an annual capacity of 390,000 tonnes of high-quality aluminium, a 1,000 MW Power Plant and Port facilities in Oman.
Jointly owned by OQ Group, TAQA and Rio Tinto, Sohar Aluminium has won global acclaim for its superior, environmentally friendly technology.
Sohar Aluminium’s diverse workforce is 76% Nationalised (Omanis) and it has an internationally recognised training centre. 60% of the annual production is committed to its local downstream industries.
Sohar Aluminium intends to become a benchmark smelter while contributing to the sustainable development of Oman.
Ever since the establishment of Sohar Aluminium as the first Greenfield Aluminium smelter in the Sultanate of Oman, we have and will always be mindful and act in favour of protecting the environment, adopting & implementing high standards in terms of working conditions for our workforce, maintaining excellent relations with our stakeholders, and committing to transparent policies and moral responsibilities, all of which are summarised under the ESG Standards.
Joining the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative is a commitment of our pledge to continue to apply the ESG Standards in everything we do that will ensure our sustainability and create a better future for the coming generations.
