BORBET Group has achieved ASI Performance Standard Certification with a focus on Material Stewardship for the manufacture of alloy wheels at BORBET Group facilities including Medebach (Germany), Ranshofen (Austria), Solingen (Germany), Bad Langensalza (Germany), Port Elizabeth (South Africa) and Kodersdorf (Germany) as well as Corporate Headquarters at Hesborn, Germany.

Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that BORBET Group has been successfully against the ASI Performance Standard for responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium with a focus on material stewardship. BORBET Group’s main product is aluminium alloy wheels for the passenger automobile market. The company’s Port Elizabeth facility is the first to be ASI Certified in South Africa.

The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. ASI Performance Standard certifications focusing on ‘material stewardship’ address issues such as product design, life cycle assessments, management of process scrap and collection and recycling of products at end-of-life.

The independent, third-party audit of the BORBET Group operations was carried out by GUTcert (AFNOR Group).

Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI said, “We warmly congratulate BORBET Group on achieving ASI Performance Standard Certification at these six facilities, including the first ASI Certified facility in South Africa. The company makes efforts to maximise material use efficiency along the product’s life cycle, through design that is enhanced by life cycle assessment, special production techniques, an extensive system for recycling process scrap, and a recycling strategy at the end of product use. These activities and systems demonstrate BORBET Group’s commitment to the material stewardship of aluminium.”

Margot Borbet, CEO BORBET Group said, “We are particularly pleased to receive ASI certification, as it perfectly complements our commitment to reconciling high quality with our environmental, social and ethical standards.”
