S.A.V. S.p.A. has achieved ASI Performance Standard Certification for the processing and remelting of raw materials and metal scrap in the production of aluminium alloy ingots at the Colombo and dell’Artigianato facilities in Italy. The production capacity of the S.A.V. S.p.A. plants is of 100,000 tonnes per year.

Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that S.A.V. S.p.A. has been successfully certified against ASI Performance Standard for responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium. The company’s alloy ingots are produced by maximising the recycling of aluminium for the production of castings used in various industrial sectors, including automotive, household appliances, naval, aeronautical, building, industrial machinery, electrical, and the food industry.

The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain. It sets out 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Governance, Environment and Social, which address key issues such as biodiversity, Indigenous Peoples rights, and greenhouse gas emissions.

The independent, third-party audit of the S.A.V. S.p.A facilities was carried out by Bureau Veritas Certification.

Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI said “ASI warmly congratulates S.A.V. S.p.A. on achieving Performance Standard Certification at the Colombo and dell’Artigianato plants in Italy. S.A.V. S.p.A. is a key player in the circular economy through its reuse of metal scrap for the creation of new alloys. Recycling scrap — from its customers, third-party companies, and the product “end of life” waste stream – back into productive use in these facilities that follow industry-leading environmental, social and governance criteria is a win-win, which shows the company’s commitment to sustainability in aluminium production, and a broader circular economy.”

Valerio Rossetto, CEO of S.A.V. S.p.A. said, “We are extremely pleased to receive the certification of our activity according to the ASI standard. For us, it represents the award of the commitment profuse over the years to environmental, social and economic sustainability. A commitment that has led to important results now recognised by the ASI certification, but which has to proceed with a continuous search for improvement in social and environmental impacts, also through the development of technologies aimed at promoting the circular economy of aluminium and the reduction of CO2 emissions.

We all know that, too often, what determines the purchase of a product is the price attributed to it, forgetting what is the added value it contains. S.A.V. S.p.A. wants to emphasise its commitment to a sustainable development. Whoever chooses us as a supplier will find in us a partner capable of supplying a product that conforms qualitatively to the requirements, and at the same time, contains an added value given by the respect for the founding principles of ASI: Governance, Environmental Sustainability and Social Sustainability”
