Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that ASAŞ Alüminyum has been certified against the ASI Performance Standard V2 at two production plants in Akyazı and Karapürçek, Türkiye. The company produces finished and semi-finished rolled and extruded aluminium products destined for several downstream sectors, including building and construction, commercial vehicles, rail transport, aerospace, automotive, solar panel, electronics, machinery, consumer goods, lighting, and furniture.
The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard V2 defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain. It sets out 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Environment, Social, and Governance, which address key issues such as biodiversity, labour rights, Indigenous Peoples rights, and greenhouse gas emissions.
The independent, third-party audit of ASAŞ Alüminyum was carried out by LiberoAssurance.
“We congratulate ASAŞ Alüminyum for achieving Performance Standard Certification at its headquarters, rolling facility and extrusion facility in Türkiye, the latter of which becomes the first certified extrusion operation in the country. ASAŞ rolled and extruded products serve an extremely broad range of downstream sectors, making it an important node in a number of global supply chains. ASI Performance Standard Certification gives the company’s customers independent assurance of its production practices against environmental, social and governance criteria.”
Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI
