ASI certifies Hindalco Industries’ Belur Unit against Performance Standard
The certification is the last of Hindalco’s downstream facilities to be certified, with all six of their facilities now certified against the Performance Standard.

Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that Hindalco Industries Ltd has been certified against the ASI Performance Standard at its Belur Unit. The facility produces 45,000 tonnes annually and caters to industries including construction, packaging and cookware. Its products include closure stock, flooring and patterned sheets, foil stock, corrugated sheets, lamp caps, fin stock and bus bars.
The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain. It sets out 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Environment, Social, and Governance, which address key issues such as biodiversity, labour rights, Indigenous Peoples rights, and greenhouse gas emissions.
The independent, third-party audits of Hindalco Industries Ltd.’s Belur Unit was carried out by CETIZION Verifica. The audit took place prior to May 31, 2023, thus enabling a Performance Standard V2 certification. A full listing of audit findings outlining evidence of conformances and minor non-conformance is available from page 5 of the summary audit report, linked below. Five minor non-conformances are noted under Criteria 1.1 Legal Compliance, 2.4 Responsible Sourcing, 6.3b Assessment and Management of Spills and Leakage (management), 7.1b Water assessment (risk assessment) and 11.2 OH&S Management System. During the Certification Period, Hindalco Industries’ Belur Unit will be implementing a corrective action plan the implementation of which will be verified in follow-up audits.
“We congratulate Hindalco Industries Ltd’s Belur Unit for achieving ASI Performance Standard Certification. Rolled aluminum products are integral to numerous industries and sectors due to their versatility and strength. This certification highlights both achievements and areas for improvement, and offers a clear path to adoption of more responsible production practices.”
– Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI
