Hindalco Industries Ltd’s Kuppam Works has achieved ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) Certification for its extrusions plant, located in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, India. Kuppam is Hindalco’s second extrusions facility, and the sixth Hindalco facility to achieve ASI certification. The Kuppam facility currently produces 15,000 tonnes of aluminium alloy extruded products per annum.

Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that Hindalco Industries Ltd has been certified against the ASI Performance Standard at its Kuppam Works for the manufacturing of value-added aluminium extrusion profiles. Hindalco’s Kuppam plant has advanced surface finishing and fabrication capabilities and produces a range of extruded profiles for use in automotive, building and construction industries and for other industrial applications. Around 30% of its material is exported to Europe, the US, and Indonesia.

The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain. It sets out 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Environment, Social, and Governance, which address key issues such as biodiversity, labour rights, Indigenous Peoples rights, and greenhouse gas emissions.

The independent, third-party audits of Hindalco Industries Ltd.’s Kuppam Works facility was carried out by CETIZION Verifica. The audit took place prior to May 31, 2023, thus enabling a Performance Standard V2 certification.

“We warmly congratulate Hindalco Industries Ltd, for achieving ASI Performance Standard Certification at its Kuppam Works facility. The company’s production of aluminium extrusions caters to automotive and building and construction industries, which benefit from aluminum’s lightweighting, strength and corrosion resistance properties. By obtaining ASI Certification, the Kuppam Works Facility demonstrates its dedication to implementing production processes and policies that meet ASI’s high standards of environmental, social, and governance performance.”

– Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI

“This certification is a recognition of our relentless efforts to meet the growing global demand for responsibly produced aluminium. The certification enhances the value of the high-quality extrusions produced by Kuppam for its customers in automotive and building and construction sectors.

– Mr. Nilesh Koul, Head- Downstream Aluminium Business
