Intals S.p.A. has achieved ASI Performance Standard V3.1 (2023) for the manufacture of aluminium alloys for foundry applications and derivatives, with processes including mechanical pre-treatment of aluminium scrap and waste, as well as pyrolysis, melting, casting, and mechanical and physico-chemical processing lines at the Intals Parona facility in Milan, Italy.

ASI Certification

Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that Intals S.p.A. has been certified against the ASI Performance Standard V3.1 (2023). The Certification covers the production of aluminium ingots and alloys, including pure and alloy aluminium ingots, master alloys, specialty products, recovered aluminium granules, salt, and argalum, with an annual production of approximately 150,000 tonnes of aluminium ingots. Production processes included within the Certification scope comprise remelting aluminium scrap with the addition of alloying elements to produce standard and customised aluminium alloys, serving a range of industrial sectors including automotive, transportation, aeronautics, naval, household appliances, industrial machinery, electrical, construction, building, and food.

The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard V3 and ASI CoC Standard V2 were launched in May 2022 following a multi-year revision process. The ASI Performance Standard V3 defines 11 principles and 62 criteria under three sustainability pillars – Environment, Social, and Governance – with the aim to address pressing sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain, such as biodiversity, Indigenous Peoples rights, circularity, and greenhouse gas emissions. The 2022 Standards and related documents underwent a minor update in 2023, accounting for editorial changes, correction of minor errors and for general clarification, culminating in the release of Performance Standard V3.1 (2023) and Chain of Custody Standard V2.1 (2023).

The independent, third-party audit of Intals S.p.A. was carried out by Bureau Veritas Certification. A full listing of audit findings is available in the summary audit reports, linked below. Four minor non-conformances were identified during the audit under the Criteria 5.3a GHG Emissions Reduction Plans, 5.3b-e GHG Emissions Reduction Plans – Targets, review and disclosure, 10.2a Child Labour and 10.3a-c Forced Labour. Intals S.p.A. will be implementing corrective actions, to be verified in a follow-up audit.
