Oetinger Aluminium GmbH has achieved ASI Chain of Custody (CoC) Standard V2 (2022) Certification at its production facility at the Weißenhorn and Neu-Ulm production sites in Germany. This is the first certification for an Entity in Europe against the updated CoC Standard V2, which was launched in May 2022 following a multi-year revision process.
Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that Oetinger Aluminium GmbH has been successfully certified against the ASI CoC Standard V2 (2022) at its Weißenhorn and Neu-Ulm production sites in Germany. The two plants produce approx. 180,000 tonnes per year of aluminium casting alloys in solid (ingots) and liquid form (tankers). Oetinger Aluminium GmbH received ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) Certification in December 2021.
The ASI CoC Standard V2 sets out requirements for the creation of a Chain of Custody for material that is produced and processed through the value chain into diverse downstream sectors. The implementation of ASI’s CoC Standard links verified practices at successive steps of the supply chain – certified under the ASI Performance Standard – to the products produced by ASI Certified Entities. The CoC Standard also confirms that appropriate policies and due diligence process are in place to identify and address critical issues, such as corruption, human rights abuses, materials originating from conflict-affected and high-risk areas in the supply chain and support responsible sourcing.
The independent, third-party audit of the two Oetinger Aluminium GmbH facilities was carried out by GUTcert (AFNOR Group).
“We congratulate Oetinger Aluminium GmbH on achieving certification against the new ASI CoC Standard V2 at its two recycling facilities in Germany. The company’s liquid aluminium metal from recycled scrap offers a range of advantages to its customers in terms of efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and environmental sustainability, including from energy savings during transport and the avoidance of remelting for downstream production. Now, with CoC Certification in place, customers of Oetinger Aluminium can also leverage the sustainable properties of its metal through the use of on-product claims.”
– Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI
“Achieving ASI CoC certification is one of the important milestones for our team in our plan to reach carbon neutral production. But it also underscores our commitment to continue on the sustainability production path. It is a solid foundation for our company’s further development in selected markets while maintaining a competitive advantage, especially against unethical suppliers. The entire team will continue to focus on developing low-carbon solutions on the way to our customers and thus contribute in part to carbon-stable recycling.”
– Lubomir Pajonk, CEO at Oetinger Aluminium GmbH
