Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that Shandong YuanWang Electrotechnics Co., Ltd. has been certified against the ASI Chain of Custody Standard V2 (2022). The facilities included in the Certification are Shandong YuanWang Electrotechnics Co., Ltd., Shandong Chuangyuan Renewable Resources Co., Ltd., Shandong Hengwang Cable Co., Ltd., and Inner Mongolia Yuanwang Metal Technology Co., Ltd. The facilities manufacture electric-grade aluminium round rods, aluminium alloy ingots, and aluminium alloy wires and cables for electrical and cable applications using processes that include aluminium re-melting and refining, melting, casting, cutting, rolling, sawing, homogenisation, wire drawing, ageing treatment, cold-pressure welding and stranding. The facilities have a combined annual production capacity of 600,000 tonnes of aluminium round rods, 200,000 tonnes of aluminium alloy ingots, 40,000 tonnes of aluminium alloy wires and cables, and 200,000 tonnes of electric-grade aluminium round rods.
The ASI CoC Standard V2 sets out requirements for the creation of a Chain of Custody for material that is produced and processed through the value chain into diverse downstream sectors. The implementation of ASI’s CoC Standard links verified practices at successive steps of the supply chain – certified under the ASI Performance Standard – to the materials produced by ASI Certified Entities. The CoC Standard also confirms that appropriate policies and due diligence processes are in place to identify and address critical issues, such as corruption, human rights abuses, materials originating from conflict-affected and high-risk areas in the supply chain and support responsible sourcing.
The independent, third-party audit of Shandong YuanWang Electrotechnics Co., Ltd. was carried out by SGS-CSTC Standards Technical Services. A full listing of audit findings outlining evidence of conformances is available from page 5 of the summary audit report, linked below. Five minor non-conformances were identified during the Chain of Custody Certification audit under Criteria 1.7g Reporting to ASI (IntraEntity Flows), 4.2a Eligible Scrap (PreConsumer), 4.3b Records Management for Direct Suppliers of Recyclable Scrap Material (Financial transactions), 5.1c ASI Aluminium (Aluminium sourcing) and 7.1c Responsible Sourcing Policy (Human Rights Due Diligence). Shandong YuanWang Electrotechnics Co., Ltd. will be implementing corrective actions, to be verified in a follow-up audit.
