ASI certifies South32 Worsley Alumina against Chain of Custody Standard V2

South32 Worsley Alumina has achieved ASI Chain of Custody (CoC) Standard V2 (2022) Certification for mining and alumina refining operations at its Boddington Bauxite Mine and the Worsley Alumina Refinery in Collie, Australia. The Certification also covers its associated port facility in Bunbury, Australia. The operations were Certified against ASI Performance Standard V3 (2022) in September 2024.

Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that South32 Worsley Alumina has been successfully certified against the ASI CoC Standard V2 (2022). The Certified operations encompass the Boddington Bauxite Mine, producing 18.8 million tonnes of bauxite ore annually, and its alumina refinery, producing around 4.6 million tonnes of alumina annually, as well as associated infrastructure including conveyors and its Bunbury port.

The ASI CoC Standard V2 sets out requirements for the creation of a Chain of Custody for material that is produced and processed through the value chain into diverse downstream sectors. The implementation of ASI’s CoC Standard links verified practices at successive steps of the supply chain – certified under the ASI Performance Standard – to the materials produced by ASI Certified Entities. The CoC Standard also confirms that appropriate policies and due diligence processes are in place to identify and address critical issues, such as corruption, human rights abuses, materials originating from conflict-affected and high-risk areas in the supply chain and support responsible sourcing.

The independent, third-party audit of the South32 Worsley Alumina facility was carried out by KPMG Australia. A full listing of audit findings outlining evidence of conformances is available from page 5 of the summary audit report, linked below. No non-conformances were identified during the audit.
