TRIMET Aluminium SE has achieved ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) Certification at its smelter and foundry at Essen, Germany. The facility’s main outputs include extrusion billets, rolling ingots, and primary die casting alloys, produced from primary and secondary aluminium inputs.

Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that TRIMET Aluminium SE has been certified against the ASI Performance Standard for the development, production and sale of aluminium products in the form of billets, slabs, ingots and liquid aluminium at the TRIMET Aluminium SE Essen site in Germany. The facility has an annual primary aluminium production capacity of 165,000 metric tons, and an annual scrap / dross recycling capacity of 100,000 metric tons. TRIMET Aluminium SE has three other ASI Performance Standard certified production sites –in Gelsenkirchen, Germany and the Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne and Castelsarrasin sites in France.

The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain. It sets out 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Environment, Social, and Governance, which address key issues such as biodiversity, labour rights, Indigenous Peoples rights, and greenhouse gas emissions.

The independent, third-party audits of TRIMET Aluminium SE Essen facility was carried out by TÜV NORD CERT GmbH.

“We congratulate TRIMET Aluminium SE for achieving ASI Performance Standard (V2) Certification at its Essen, Germany smelting / recycling facility and foundry. By continuing to certify additional production sites to the Performance Standard, the company is demonstrating its commitment to strengthening its sustainability performance, addressing its environmental impacts, and taking a leadership role to inspire positive change within the aluminum industry.”

– Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI

“With the certification of our production sites in Essen, we are consistently pursuing our sustainability strategy. As a domestic aluminium producer, we ensure the industry is supplied with an important material. With sustainably produced products, we not only contribute to global climate protection targets but also reinforce the competitiveness of our production sites.”

– Philipp Schlüter, Chairman of the Executive Board of TRIMET Aluminium SE
