ASI’s uniqueness lies in its whole of supply chain, multi-stakeholder approach which brings together producers, users and affected stakeholders in the aluminium value chain. This diversity of knowledge, experience, culture and expertise creates an enabling environment for rich discussions and carefully considered actions.

As ASI approaches “Governance season”, we would like to see increased member participation in governance, including nominations and voting. This is a key member benefit which builds ownership in our shared organisation and ensures that there is a balance of interests in ASI’s governance.

ASI strives to be inclusive, responsive and representative in our decision-making, but we can only go so far with limited member participation. This call for member involvement in governance resonates with an African Proverb that says, “you cannot shave a man’s head in his absence”: in other words, that decisions impacting others should be made with their involvement.

The member representatives on the Board and Standards Committee are elected by all ASI members. Increased member participation in the governance process contributes to better outcomes and ensures decision-makers reflect the diversity of the membership and stakeholders.

This Governance season, determine to be part of the process. Do not be absent. Cast your vote and have your say!
