Support for accurate CoC material accounting
ASI Chain of Custody certified Entities are required to accurately track CoC Material Inputs and Outputs within their Certification Scope (as well as non-CoC Material) via a Material Accounting System as outlined in Section 8 of the ASI Chain of Custody Standard v2 (2022). Ensuring that the share of CoC Material leaving an Entity’s Certification Scope does not exceed the share entering, thus avoiding the over-accounting of ASI Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, or Eligible Scrap Mass Balance, is crucial.
To support Entities with the complexity they may encounter in this process, particularly those Entities with Certification Scopes encompassing multiple types of CoC Material, ASI has published a booklet providing the relevant material accounting formulae.
This compact resource complements the existing CoC Guidance. It reveals the calculation formulae of key metrics under the ASI CoC Standard to help ASI Members to get a better understanding of the functions underlying the Microsoft Excel-based ASI CoC Material Accounting Tool v4 (June 2024). We hope that this supplementary guidance can help to prevent over- and under-accounting issues.
Additional enhancements in the ASI CoC Material Accounting Tool
Version 4 of the CoC MAT, also published in June 2024, features updates to several functions and improved readability for all formulae throughout.
About the ASI Chain of Custody
The ASI Chain of Custody (CoC) Standard promotes verified responsible sourcing practices within the aluminium industry. It complements the ASI Performance Standard by defining rules and required Entity-level systems and processes to enable the flow of CoC Material (i.e., ASI-certified material) through the supply chain, maintaining an unbroken link from one ASI Chain of Custody certified Entity to the next. The CoC Standard is based on a mass balance accounting system.
