What ASI membership means to Constantia

Our ASI membership signifies our commitment to responsible and sustainable practices in the Aluminium industry. It matters because it aligns with our core values of environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and responsible governance. Being part of ASI allows us to collaborate with like-minded organisations to drive positive change across the entire Aluminium value chain from the mine to the final customer. It also provides us with a framework to continuously improve our practices and ensure transparency and accountability. We are proud to own the ASI Certificate Number “3”, which shows our strong commitment to ASI already from the beginning.

Improvements or changes made under the key social or environmental areas covered by the ASI standards

Under the ASI Standards, we have implemented several key improvements. Environmentally, we have reduced our carbon footprint by optimizing energy use (e.g. due to more efficient heat exchangers) and increasing our reliance on renewable energy sources by switching to 100% renewable electricity. Two years ago, we committed to Net Zero by the end of 2050.

Socially, we have enhanced our labour practices by ensuring fair wages, safe working conditions, and promoting diversity and integration upstream in our value chain. Additionally, we have strengthened our community engagement efforts, supporting local initiatives and fostering positive relationships with stakeholders, e.g. by local biodiversity programs which are also involving schools.

The impact of sustainability actions in the framework of ASI Certification

Our sustainability actions have led to significant positive impacts. We have seen a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and improved energy efficiency, contributing to a healthier environment.

Our social initiatives have resulted in higher employee satisfaction and retention rates, as well as stronger community ties. Overall, our commitment to sustainability has enhanced our reputation and competitiveness in the market, demonstrating that responsible practices can drive both environmental and economic benefits.

We have furthermore transformed already 10% of our Aluminium production to Low Carbon Aluminium. This by average means a reduction of the associated CO2e emissions of about 50%, whereby the calculation method has been validated by the TÜV. The systems we have implemented with ASI gave us great guidance on how to implement, claim and track this more environmentally friendly new product.

Improving on achievements: Looking to the future

We are continuously seeking ways to build on our current achievements. Future plans include further reducing our environmental impact through innovative technologies and expanding our use of recycled materials. We aim to deepen our social responsibility efforts by enhancing employee development programs and increasing our support for community projects. The future looks promising as we strive to lead the industry in sustainability, setting new benchmarks and inspiring others to follow suit.
