Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that OETINGER Aluminium has been successfully certified against the ASI Performance Standard for responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium with Provisional Status. The company recycles mixed sources of scrap and refines it into aluminium alloys that are delivered primarily in liquid, as well as in solid, form to casting houses for the automotive industry, mechanical engineering, and electrical industries.
The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain. It sets out 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Governance, Environment and Social, which address key issues such as biodiversity, Indigenous Peoples rights, and greenhouse gas emissions.
The independent, third-party audit of the OETINGER plants was carried out by GUTcert (AFNOR Group).
Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI said, “We warmly congratulate OETINGER Aluminium on achieving ASI Performance Standard Certification with Provisional status. The company is an essential link in the value chain, providing recycling concept, logistics, the processing of waste metal, chips, and other scrap back into high quality alloys through smelting and refining and finally, delivery of materials needed to make new products. Further, its focus on delivery of liquid metal means additional energy savings by avoiding their customers’ need for remelting. The company’s ASI Certification now also shows its commitment to operating in a responsible manner and continual improvement.”
Lubomir Pajonk, Managing Director of OETINGER Aluminium said, “We are proud of our team, our colleagues, who made a successful certification of the ASI Performance Standard possible. This commits us not only as a member of the family of companies with this standard but also for the future steps we are preparing. Sustainability, renewability and circular economy should be our goal and direction. OETINGER Aluminium is now 75 years old and that is a lot of experience, but the road ahead is full of challenges, commitments and a responsible approach to a future we look forward to and want to support in savings not only in CO2 but in carbon footprint reduction as well.”
