Shyam Sel & Power Limited has achieved ASI Performance Standard V3.1 (2023) Certification with a focus on Material Stewardship for the manufacture and supply of aluminium bare foils for food, liquid, flexible and pharmaceutical packaging at their Aluminium Foils Division located in Pakuria, India.

Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that Shyam Sel & Power Limited has been certified against the ASI Performance Standard V3.1 (2023). The facility manufactures bare aluminium foil in a range of grades, sizes and thicknesses, including ultra-gauge foil, using rewinding, rolling, slitting, annealing and packing processes. The plant has an annual production of approximately 21,600 tonnes of saleable products.

The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard V3 and ASI CoC Standard V2 were launched in May 2022 following a multi-year revision process. The ASI Performance Standard V3 defines 11 principles and 62 criteria under three sustainability pillars – Environment, Social, and Governance – with the aim to address pressing sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain, such as biodiversity, Indigenous Peoples rights, circularity, and greenhouse gas emissions. The 2022 Standards and related documents underwent a minor update in 2023, accounting for editorial changes, correction of minor errors and for general clarification, culminating in the release of Performance Standard V3.1 (2023) and Chain of Custody Standard V2.1 (2023). The Material Stewardship Certification is in a transition phase from the PS V2 (2017) to the PS V3 (2022) Standard, such that the first Certification cycle under the 2022 Standard will be against applicable criteria of at least Principles 1-4. These same Facilities will be required to demonstrate Conformance to all 11 Principles within 5 years after the launch of the V3 (2022) Standard.

The independent, third-party audit of Shyam Sel & Power Limited was carried out by CETIZION Verifica. A full listing of audit findings is available in the summary audit reports, linked below. Three minor non-conformances were identified during the audit under the 2.4a-e Responsible Sourcing, 3.4a-f Stakeholder Complaints, Grievances and Requests for Information and 4.4a-c Collection and Recycling of Products at End of Life – Material Conversion and other Manufacturing.
