Schüco is one of the first companies in the construction sector to be certified against the ASI Performance Standard, with a focus on the material stewardship of aluminium window, door and façade systems. Aluminium gives architects the freedom to plan both pioneering and future-proof buildings due to the material’s high malleability, durability and excellent insulation properties.

Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced one of the first certifications issued to a company in the construction sector. The ASI Performance Standard focuses on ‘material stewardship’ for Industrial Users, addressing issues such as product design, life cycle assessments, management of process scrap and collection and recycling of products at end-of-life.

The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The independent, third-party audit of Schüco was carried out by GUTcert (AFNOR Group).

Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI said, “Sincere congratulations to Schüco for their successful achievement of Certification against the ASI Performance Standard. ASI’s standards have application throughout the aluminium value chain, including downstream sectors such as construction with a focus on sustainable buildings. The current demand for materials with a positive eco-balance will encourage more responsible supply chain practices. Downstream users of aluminium also have a critical role to play in embedding material stewardship principles in design, life cycle analyses, closed-loop scrap management and end-of-life product strategies. We appreciate Schüco’s strong commitment to sustainability and look forward to their continued engagement with the ASI program.”

“The ASI certification is an important milestone within our sustainable material strategy,” said Andreas Engelhardt, Managing Partner of Schüco. “We aim to support our partners in the development of outstanding and future-proof buildings. This commitment goes hand-in-hand with our efforts towards ensuring responsible procurement as well as a comprehensive circular economy strategy. We are proud to receive this recognition of what we have achieved so far.”
