Alu-met GmbH has achieved ASI Chain of Custody (CoC) Standard V2 (2017) Certification for the production of extrusion billets from recycled aluminium scrap at its production sites of Aluminium GmbH Nachrodt (Germany) and Speedline Aluminium-Gießerei GmbH (Austria), and the relevant functions at Head Office in Austria.

Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that Alu-met has been certified against the ASI Chain of Custody Standard at the company’s two casting facilities, which produce extrusion billets primarily from recycled aluminium feedstocks. Alu-met achieved full ASI Performance Standard Certification at its Aluminium GmbH Nachrodt and Speedline Aluminium-Gießerei GmbH facilities in 2022 and 2020 respectively.

The ASI CoC Standard sets out requirements for the creation of a Chain of Custody for material that is produced and processed through the value chain into diverse downstream sectors. The implementation of ASI’s CoC Standard links verified practices at successive steps of the supply chain – certified under the ASI Performance Standard – to the products produced by ASI Certified Entities. The CoC Standard also confirms that appropriate policies and due diligence process are in place to identify and address critical issues, such as corruption, human rights abuses, materials originating from conflict-affected and high-risk areas in the supply chain and support responsible sourcing.

The independent, third-party audit of the Alu-met GmbH facility was carried out by TÜV Rheinland Cert GmbH.

“ASI warmly congratulates Alu-met on achieving ASI Chain of Custody Standard Certification for both its casting facilities. Downstream aluminium-using companies are looking to their upstream suppliers to provide them with assurance of responsible production via ASI Performance Standard Certification. With ASI CoC Standard Certification, Alu-met can now also meet their customers’ responsible sourcing requirements for ASI Certified material.”

– Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI

“We are very pleased that, as a supplement to the ASI Performance Standard, we have now successfully completed the ASI CoC certificate for the entire group of companies, consisting of Alumet GmbH as well as our production sites Aluminum GmbH Nachrodt and Speedline Aluminum Gießerei GmbH, and can thus fulfil the comprehensive ASI standard. Sustainability and a fair treatment of people has always been an important part of our corporate strategy. The ASI CoC certification is now a further step in representing and living these values along the entire value chain and making them visible to the outside.”

– Dr. Gerhard Anger, Alu-met GmbH General Manager
