Alucoat has achieved ASI Performance Standard V3 (2022) Certification for the manufacture of aluminium lacquer coated coils and honeycomb core sheets at its facility in Linares, Spain.

Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that the ALUCOAT CONVERSION, S.A.U. facility has been certified against the ASI Performance Standard V3 (2022). The facility produces coils and honeycomb core sheets destined for use in the food and beverage, pharmaceutical and construction industries.

The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard V3 (2022) was launched in May 2022 following a multi-stakeholder, multi-year revision process. It defines 11 principles and 62 criteria under three sustainability pillars – Environment, Social, and Governance – with the aim to address pressing sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain, such as biodiversity, Indigenous Peoples’ rights, circularity, and greenhouse gas emissions.

The independent, third-party audit of the Alucoat facility was carried out by TÜV Rheinland Cert GmbH. A full listing of audit findings outlining evidence of conformances and minor non-conformance is available from page 5 of the summary audit report, linked below. Ten minor non-conformances are noted under Criteria 3.2 Non-compliance and Liabilities, 5.3a-e GHG Emissions Reduction Plans, 9.2a-e Gender Equity and Women’s Empowerment, 9.8a Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas – Strong Management Systems, 9.8b Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas – Identify and assess risks, 9.8c Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas – Strategy to respond to risks, 9.8d Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas – Audit of due diligence, 9.8e Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas – Report Annually, 10.3a-c Forced Labour and 11.1b-e Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Management System – Reviews and disclosure. Alucoat will be implementing a corrective action plan, the implementation of which will be verified in follow-up audits.

“We congratulate ALUCOAT for achieving Performance Standard Certification V3 (2022) at its Linares facility. In food applications, coated foils act as a barrier against light, moisture, gases, and liquids to protect the content’s quality, thus reducing spoilage loss and extending storage life. This Certification demonstrates ALUCOAT’s commitment to implementing responsible production practices and addressing the social, environmental, and governance impacts of their operations.”

– Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer of the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative
