alupak AG has achieved ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) Certification with a focus on Material Stewardship, and Chain of Custody V1 (2017) Certification at its Belp, Switzerland facility. The company’s manufacturing process involves the creation of aluminium capsules, containers and forms through cutting, stamping, and deep drawing of coated and printed aluminium foils.

Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that alupak AG has been certified against the ASI Performance and Chain of Custody Standards. The certifications cover the whole development, production, and sales of aluminium packaging at the alupak AG site at Belp, Switzerland.  alupak AG has the capacity to produce more than 10 billion capsule products a year, primarily as food packaging.

The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. ASI Performance Standard certifications focusing on ‘material stewardship’ address issues such as product design, life cycle assessments, management of process scrap and collection and recycling of products at end-of-life.  The ASI CoC Standard sets out requirements for the creation of a Chain of Custody for material that is produced and processed through the value chain into diverse downstream sectors. The implementation of ASI’s CoC Standard links verified practices at successive steps of the supply chain – certified under the ASI Performance Standard – to the products produced by ASI Certified Entities.

The independent, third-party audits of the alupak AG operation were carried out by Bureau Veritas Certification.

“We congratulate alupak AG for achieving ASI Performance Standard with Material Stewardship focus, and Chain of Custody Standard certifications at their manufacturing facility in Belp, Switzerland. As with other aluminium food packaging, capsules offer many functions including convenience, preservation, and precise portioning, among others – and moving towards a circular approach is key. By obtaining dual ASI Certification and implementing appropriate upstream sourcing practices, alupak AG can help its customers meet consumer expectations for responsibly produced products and contribute to addressing global sustainability challenges.”

– Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI

“alupak AG believes in a business model based on sustainability and excellence. We are proud to have achieved ASI certification and support fully the Aluminum Stewardship’s vision and goals – being a responsible part of society with our products and contributing significantly in the positive race to a sustainable future.”

– Andreas Zenz, Chief Executive Officer at alupak AG
