GZ Industries Limited has achieved ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) Certification for the manufacturing of aluminium beverage cans for the food and beverage industry at its facilities in Aba and Agbara, Nigeria and Wadeville, South Africa. The company’s three facilities have an annual total production capacity of over 3 billion cans and are capable of producing a range of sizes and shapes.

Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that GZ Industries Limited has been certified against the ASI Performance Standard for the production of beverage cans at its facilities in Aba and Agbara, Nigeria and Wadeville, South Africa. The Aba and Agbara facilities represent the first ASI Certifications in Nigeria.

The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain. It sets out 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Environment, Social, and Governance, which address key issues such as biodiversity, Indigenous Peoples rights, and greenhouse gas emissions.

The independent, third-party audit of the GZ Industries Limited operation was carried out by CETIZION Verifica. The audit took place prior to May 31, 2023, thus enabling a Performance Standard V2 certification.

“We congratulate GZ Industries Limited on achieving ASI Performance Standard Certification at these three beverage can production facilities; the first to have achieved certification in Nigeria. The company’s focus on using recycled aluminium in the production of their beverage cans , recycling 100% of process scrap, as well as its community engagement initiatives to improve used beverage can collection rates are indicative of the company’s commitment to material stewardship inside and outside its production plants. GZ Industries’ Performance Standard certification provides a roadmap to guide its continuous improvement for a wide range of ESG issues.
