Magna PT S.p.A. has achieved ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) Certification with a focus on Material Stewardship for the production of automotive transmissions at its Modugno, Italy plant. In addition, the Magna PT B.V. & Co. KG subsidiary has expanded its Performance Standard Certification (#151) scope to include its Rosenberg, Germany plant, which produces gearboxes, drive systems and components.

Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that Magna PT S.p.A has been successfully certified against the ASI Performance Standard with a focus on material stewardship. The activities at the Modugno facility primarily involves the production of automotive transmissions in manual, automatic and hybrid variations. It becomes the third subsidiary of the Magna Group to achieve ASI Certification, following Magna PT B.V. & Co. KG and Magna BDW Technologies GmbH, both in Germany.

The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. ASI Performance Standard certifications focusing on ‘material stewardship’ address issues such as product design, life cycle assessments, management of process scrap and collection and recycling of products at end-of-life.

The independent, third-party audit of the Magna PT S.p.A. Modugno site was carried out by GUTcert (AFNOR Group).

“We warmly congratulate Magna PT S.p.A on achieving ASI Performance Standard Certification at its Modugno plant. Material stewardship activities that increase the efficient use of metal and maximise the amount brought back as feedstocks for new products are essential to support the circular economy. We’re pleased to see Magna Group continue to extend its powertrain division’s ASI Certifications, demonstrating the company’s commitment to maximising aluminium’s circularity properties in its operations”

– Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI

“As we continue to move forward in our efforts to protect and preserve the planet, we see the certification according to ASI as one of our milestones in our sustainability strategy toward responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of critical raw materials throughout the supply chain. The certifications of the plants in Modugno and Rosenberg have brought us one step closer to this goal.”

– Peter Tillmann, Director Central QEHS at Magna PT B.V. & Co. KG
