Novelis (China) Aluminum Products Co., Ltd. (Novelis China) has achieved ASI Chain of Custody (CoC) Standard V2 (2022) Certification at its production facility in the Changzhou National Hi-Tech District, Jiangsu Province, China. This is the first certification against the updated CoC Standard V2, which was launched in May 2022 following a multi-year revision process.

Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that Novelis has been successfully certified against the ASI CoC Standard V2 (2022) at its Changzhou production facility in China. The plant’s activities focus on the production of high-strength and lightweight aluminum sheet for use in full structural frames, as well as hoods, doors, fenders and many other components for lightweight vehicle structures and body panels. Novelis China received ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) Certification in April 2022.

The ASI CoC Standard V2 sets out requirements for the creation of a Chain of Custody for material that is produced and processed through the value chain into diverse downstream sectors. The implementation of ASI’s CoC Standard links verified practices at successive steps of the supply chain – certified under the ASI Performance Standard – to the products produced by ASI Certified Entities. The CoC Standard also confirms that appropriate policies and due diligence process are in place to identify and address critical issues, such as corruption, human rights abuses, materials originating from conflict-affected and high-risk areas in the supply chain and support responsible sourcing.

The independent, third-party audit of the Novelis China facility was carried out by DNV Business Assurance Services UK Ltd.

“We congratulate Novelis China on achieving the first certification against the new ASI CoC Standard V2 at its Changzhou facility. The success of the global automotive sector’s focus to expand electric mobility will be built upon strong upstream partners with the capacity to produce the growing volume of metal required. With dual ASI certification in place, Novelis demonstrates its ongoing commitment to foster responsible production and stewardship of aluminium, and can support responsible aluminium sourcing by their downstream customers.”

Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI

“With the continuous development of lightweighting technology and the ongoing pursuit of low-carbon sustainable development, we see great potential in China to expand the use of lightweight aluminum solutions in the automotive and aerospace industries. Driven by our purpose of shaping a sustainable world together, we are committed to working with our partners across the value chain to introduce more cutting-edge technologies and low-carbon, sustainable aluminum solutions in China.”

James Liu, Managing Director, Novelis China, and Vice President, Automotive, Novelis Asia.
