Slim Aluminium S.p.A. has achieved ASI Performance Standard certification for the manufacturing of aluminium alloys rolled products by remelting, casting, hot and cold rolling and heat treatments. The facility, located near Rome, Italy has a maximum capacity of approximately 95,000 tons per year.

Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that Slim Aluminium S.p.A. has been successfully certified against the ASI Performance Standard for responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium at the Cisterna di Latina plant in Italy. The facility is vertically integrated, with casthouse, rolling mills and finishing lines, and manufactures flat rolled aluminium products with a gauge range of 6 µm to 6 mm in soft as well as hard alloys.

The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain. It sets out 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Governance, Environment and Social, which address key issues such as biodiversity, Indigenous Peoples rights, and greenhouse gas emissions.

The independent, third-party audit of the Slim Aluminium S.p.A. plant was carried out by Bureau Veritas Certification.

Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI said, “We warmly congratulate Slim Aluminium on achieving ASI Performance Standard Certification for their plant at Cisterna di Latina, Italy. The facility’s vertical integration has the ability to incorporate recycled aluminium feedstock, and its ASI Certification takes these environmental credentials a step further to provide customers in a wide range of downstream sectors with the assurance of responsible production practices at the plant.”

Thomas Witte, CEO of Slim Aluminium S.p.A., has expressed his satisfaction for the recent achievement of his team: “I am pleased to receive the certification. ASI certification complements requirements of our extensive product portfolio. We want to support our customers in meeting the growing consumer demand for sustainable raw materials. ASI certification helps promote improvements for people and the environment throughout the aluminium value chain”.
