Nemak S.A.B de C.V (Nemak) has achieved ASI Performance Standard V3 (2022) Certification at three of its global production facilities in Poland, Slovakia and Brazil. All three facilities produce aluminium components for the automotive industry.

Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that Nemak has been certified against the ASI Performance Standard V3 at three facilities globally, Nemak Slovakia s.r.o., near Ladomerská Vieska, Slovakia, Nemak Poland Sp. z o.o. in Bielsko-Biała, Poland and Nemak Alumínio do Brazil Ltda. in Betim, Mato Grosso, Brazil. The three facilities produce a range of automotive components. The Slovakia facility manufactures engine blocks, transmission cases, and housings for electric engines. The Poland facility specialises in high-pressure die casting (HPDC), with production departments focused on powertrain components and vehicle structural parts. The Brazil facility produces aluminium engine blocks, cylinder heads, and transmissions.

The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard V3 (2022) defines 11 principles and 62 criteria under three sustainability pillars – Environment, Social, and Governance – with the aim to address pressing sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain.

The independent, third-party audits of the Poland and Slovakia facilities were carried out by TÜV Rheinland Cert GmbH and the third-party audit of the Brazil facility was carried out by DNV Business Assurance Services UK Ltd. A full listing of audit findings outlining evidence of conformances and minor non-conformances is available from page 5 of the summary audit report, linked below. During the Certification Period, Nemak will be implementing a corrective action plan, which will be verified in follow-up audits.

“We congratulate Nemak on achieving Performance Standard Certification at its Brazil, Poland and Slovakia production facilities. This certification not only highlights Nemak’s dedication to implementing environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing practices and policies, but also the key role of aluminium in advancing the automotive industry towards more sustainable and efficient mobility solutions. Aluminium’s exceptional strength-to-weight ratio coupled with its recyclability at the vehicle’s end-of-life aligns with a circular economy approach. We encourage more companies to adopt this mindset in their design and production of new products.”
