Nanjing Chervon Auto Precision Technology Co., Ltd. has been issued a Provisional Certification against ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) for the production and sale of automotive components at their facility in Nanjing, China. The Provisional Certification is valid for the period of one year, during which the company can address the non-conformances assessed and subsequently seek full certification.

Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that Nanjing Chervon Auto Precision Technology Co., Ltd. has been issued a Provisional Certification against the ASI Performance Standard V2. The company produces components for the automotive industry, including motor housings, steering system components and electronic brakes and parking components.

The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain. It sets out 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Environment, Social, and Governance, which address key issues such as biodiversity, labour rights, Indigenous Peoples rights, and greenhouse gas emissions.

The Provisional Certification serves as a strategic and flexible approach for aluminium sector actors to gain access to ASI’s sustainability standards framework, learn, and improve their practices over a defined period. It provides an opportunity for Members to commence their ASI Certification journey, while requiring a commitment to move towards Full Certification as soon as is practically possible.

The independent, third-party audit of Nanjing Chervon Auto Precision Technology Co., Ltd. was carried out by TÜV SÜD. The initial audit period took place prior to May 31 2023, thus enabling a Performance Standard V2 Certification. A full listing of audit findings outlining evidence of conformances and minor non-conformances is available from page 5 of the summary audit report, linked below. Two minor non-conformances were noted under Criteria 2.4 Responsible Sourcing and 5.1 Disclosure of GHG emissions and energy use. One major non-conformance was identified under Criterion 10.8 Working Time, resulting in a Certification with Provisional status of one year. Nanjing Chervon Auto Precision Technology Co., Ltd. will be implementing corrective actions, to be verified in a follow-up audit. TÜV SÜD approved the corrective action plans for the Major non-conformance prior to submission of the audit report to ASI.

“We commend Nanjing Chervon Auto Precision Technology for taking steps to meet sustainability standards through ASI Provisional Certification. The use of aluminium in automotive manufacturing continues to grow with the demand for lighter and more fuel-efficient vehicles. The Provisional Certification gives the company an entry point to the environmental, social, and governance criteria in the Performance Standard V2, and allows them to set a baseline against which they can demonstrate a commitment to continually improving sustainability performance.”

– Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI

“We are proud to have achieved ASI Certification. It is an important milestone that reflects recognition and affirmation for our company’s commitment to independent innovation and sustainable development. We will continue to work closely with customers and suppliers to continuously promote and optimize the sustainable development, look forward to working closely with all involved with ASI.”
