About South32 Worsley Alumina
Worsley Alumina is an integrated bauxite mining and alumina refining operation in the South West of Western Australia. Beginning operations in 1984, it is today recognised as one of the largest alumina refineries in the world. Bauxite is mined near the town of Boddington, 130 kilometres south east of Perth. The bauxite is transported to the Worsley Alumina Refinery near Collie via an overland conveyor system that stretches more than 50 kilometres. It is then shipped to smelters around the world, including South32’s Hillside and Mozal aluminium smelters in Southern Africa. Worsley Alumina has been a partner in developing the economy of the South West WA region for 40 years supporting more than 2,000 employees, contractors, their families and communities.
South32 Worsley Alumina is proud to join as Production and Transformation members of ASI. We will be working towards becoming fully certified against the Performance Standard (v3) in FY24. Once certified, Worsley Alumina will join the South32 operated Mozal aluminium smelter to demonstrate the production of ASI certified products along the aluminium value chain.
We believe that taking action at each step of the value chain will maximise the contribution of aluminium to a sustainable society.
– Erwin Schaufler, Vice President Operations South32 Worsley Alumina Pty Ltd
