ASI cancels 2020 AGM Week in-person event

ASI has regretfully decided to cancel its 2020 AGM Week in-person event, which was to be held in China in May this year.

Over the past few weeks, we have been closely watching the Novel Coronavirus situation, while continually liaising with our partners in China. After careful consideration of the risks and related issues, the ASI Board has regretfully concluded that it will be in the best interests of our stakeholders, members and team to cancel the 2020 ASI AGM Week in-person event.

We had been greatly looking forward to holding our 2020 event in China with the much valued support from ASI Member Shandong Nanshan Aluminium Co., Ltd. as an event partner in all the preparation work to date. We appreciate that AGM Week is a much anticipated event for the ASI community, and the Board and ASI Secretariat are sad to miss this opportunity to come together and discuss progress, share experience, build engagement and support membership growth. Nonetheless, health and safety are non-negotiable and we collectively recognise that this is not the right moment to hold an international event in China.

The way forward

  • The ‘official’ AGM component for ASI Members will be held on the planned date of May 19 via web-based conference, so that all interested ASI members may participate electronically, including from China.
  • The part of the AGM program that is traditionally open to all ASI stakeholders has been cancelled, but ASI plans to organise webinars during the year on some of the planned conference themes. These will be announced via Twitter, Linkedin and in our newsletter. Sign up for the ASI Newsletter.
  • We are open to opportunities to attend other relevant events and gatherings — subject to availability and resources — to connect with attending ASI members and stakeholders. Our events calendar shows the events where ASI is already planning to attend.
