Why ASI Membership Matters to Cevher Jant
At Cevher Jant, we manufacture aluminium alloy wheels for OEMs. Aluminium is not just our main raw material – it is truly at the center of our business and our lives.
That is why becoming a member of ASI and being certified was not only important for us, but also for our stakeholders – especially our customers. Our membership in the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) represents a significant milestone in our sustainability journey. It reflects our commitment to responsible aluminium production, transparency, and ethical business conduct across our value chain.
ASI has been a real catalyst for us. It helped us shape our sustainability roadmap and accelerate the steps we had already planned. This gave us the courage to lead within our own industry, and with that courage, our performance has risen sharply.
Our Sustainability Journey and Achievements
Our sustainability journey began with corporate-level ESG reporting. For several years, we focused mainly on measuring and disclosing our environmental, social, and governance performance. That was an important first step, but we soon realised that reporting alone was not enough.
The turning point came when we joined ASI in 2021. From then on, we moved beyond reporting and started conducting product-level Life Cycle Assessments (LCA).
At first, these were cradle-to-gate — today, they are cradle-to-grave, covering our entire product portfolio.
This process revealed the significant role aluminium plays in our products’ overall carbon footprint. With this insight, we reshaped our supply chain strategies and placed a strong priority on green supplier selection. Before approving any supplier, we conduct a comprehensive supplier evaluation process that includes environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria and a review of their relevant certifications as well as sustainability reports. Our supplier management approach is fully based on these principles — and we simply do not work with suppliers who fail to meet our sustainability criteria.
In August 2025, we successfully completed the ASI surveillance audit with zero non-conformances – a result we are very proud of.
Integrating ASI Standards into Our Operations
As a 70-year-old company, we have been working on our ESG performance for many years. However, joining ASI helped us deepen our focus and bring more structure and visibility to our efforts in recent years. In accordance with the ASI Performance Standard, we have implemented several concrete improvements across the following areas:
- Environmental Performance:
Optimisation of energy and water consumption, use of renewable electricity, and advanced emission-control systems.
Enhanced waste segregation and circularity initiatives to minimise landfill impact. - Responsible Supply Chain:
Sustainability and human rights criteria integrated into procurement and supplier evaluation processes.
Partnership with suppliers to promote responsible sourcing of low-carbon aluminium. - Human Rights & Safety:
Continuous training on ethics, occupational safety, and sustainability awareness for all employees and contractors.
Establishment of accessible grievance channels for internal and external stakeholders. - Community Engagement:
Environmental awareness programs in local communities, including recycling initiatives and biodiversity protection near our facilities.
Through these actions, sustainability has become more than an internal responsibility — it now extends across our entire value chain, enabling us to monitor and improve both the environmental and social impacts of our operations and suppliers.
Broader Impact and Continuous Improvement
Step by step, as we met ASI’s requirements, we also saw our performance rise on other sustainability platforms.
Our SAQ 5.0 scores and EcoVadis ratings improved significantly, demonstrating that ASI is not only a framework in itself but also a driver of broader progress and industry recognition.
We have also integrated ASI principles into our Integrated Management System (IMS) alongside ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ISO 14001, and ISO 50001 — ensuring that sustainability and operational excellence go hand in hand.
Looking Ahead: Shaping a Responsible Future
For us at Cevher Jant, ASI is not just a standard to comply with – it is a learning journey. It educates us, challenges us, and helps us transform our mindset. It gives us the framework to connect operational excellence with climate responsibility and social value creation.
Looking ahead, our focus will be on:
- Expanding renewable energy use and increasing circular material flows.
- Achieving ASI Chain of Custody (CoC) Certification to drive responsible production and sourcing through our own supply chain and ensure transparency.
- Supporting suppliers in adopting sustainable practices through training and collaboration.
- Deepening our decarbonisation roadmap aligned with global climate targets.
We firmly believe that inclusive and sustainable development can only be achieved through the joint efforts of all stakeholders in the aluminium industry. With ASI as our guide, we are confident that we can build a supply chain that is not only efficient but also responsible and future-oriented.
