Dr. Ashok Nandi

Consultant Bauxite-Alumina

Dr. Nandi has a Ph.D. in Geology and Mineralogy of Bauxite from Moscow, with over 40 years of experience in Bauxite-Alumina industry as Geologist and Geo-metallurgist in areas of Bauxite exploration, Resource estimation, Mine planning, Environmental issues and Alumina production including bauxite residue characterisation and disposal. JORC competent person and presently providing consultancy to various bauxite exploration and mining companies of Sierra Leone, Guinea, Ghana, Jamaica and Saudi Arabia. Also involved in setting up small Alumina Tri-hydrate plant (ATH) in Sierra Leone for SMHL-VIMETCO.

In the past during 2007 to 2012, Dr. Nandi worked for BHP-Billiton in the Boddington bauxite mine -Worsley alumina refinery of Western Australia as Geo-metallurgist; was also involved in the alumina plant feasibility work of GAC in Guinea. After BHP-Billiton assignment, Dr. Nandi worked for Rio Tinto, Ma’aden (Saudi Arabia), VEDANTA Aluminium and GAC/EGA as Consultant and continuing with some of the Rio Tinto assignments.

Dr. Nandi has travelled extensively and visited several bauxite operations and alumina plants of the world particularly in India, China, Australia, Brazil, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Saudi Arabia, Russia and Iran. Published more than 60 technical papers and edited several ICSOBA and IBAAS technical Proceedings.

Presently Dr. Nandi is the President of International Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium Society (IBAAS) and organizing conferences and symposiums in India, China and Guinea.

Dr. Nandi speaks fluent English and Russian, and has a good understanding of Hindi.
