Driving responsible growth through ASI certification

EGA’s ASI Performance Standard certification since 2019 and more recent certification against the ASI Chain of Custody Standard is part of our commitment to ESG excellence and responsible aluminium production. As the sustainability standard for our industry, ASI sets clear expectations for responsible environmental, social and governance performance across the entire aluminium value chain. At EGA, ASI Certification is a key benchmark in our continuous journey toward sustainability leadership. We recognise that sustainability is not just a responsibility but a driver of business progress.

By publicly signing up to adhering to ASI Standards, we send a strong signal to our suppliers, customers, and employees that sustainability is a core business priority. The expectations are clear: responsible sourcing, reduced environmental impact, and respect for human rights are fundamental to the way we operate. ASI also strengthens our ability to meet the evolving demands of global markets, where responsible aluminium is increasingly valued.

Through this certification, we challenge ourselves and our partners to drive continuous improvement, ensuring that EGA remains at the forefront of sustainable aluminium production while contributing to a more responsible and resilient industry.

Educating for impact with ASI-focused sustainability videos

At EGA, we are committed to making sustainability accessible and understandable for everyone. That’s why we developed five “Meeting ASI Expectations” videos in collaboration with our research partners, focusing on Advancing Sustainability, Addressing Climate Change, Pursuing Nature Positivity, Preventing Waste and Improving Circularity, and Respecting Human Rights. These videos align with ASI’s four priorities that we have also adopted at EGA and serve as an educational tool for a broad audience. We have worked tirelessly to ensure the content is as simple as possible, making sustainability concepts clear for all levels of education and expertise. To further enhance accessibility, the videos are available in English, French, and German, reflecting some of the regions where EGA operates. Through this initiative, we aim to drive greater awareness and action toward responsible aluminium production.

Advancing key initiatives in line with ASI Standards

Building on EGA’s commitment to continuous improvement and alignment with ASI’s sustainability priorities and ASI Standards, we have implemented significant enhancements over the years across key social and environmental areas:

  • Climate Action & Emissions Reduction: Strengthening our decarbonisation roadmap, including energy efficiency projects and developing low-carbon aluminium production through renewable energy sources and aluminium recycling. Beyond this we have developed a Climate Change Adaptation plan increasing resilience of our assets, people, nearby communities and ecosystems.
  • Circular Economy & Waste Management: Advancing initiatives to prevent waste and improve circularity, such as increasing reuse of industrial by-products like spent pot lining (SPL), and innovating utilisation of bauxite residue.
  • Water & Biodiversity Management: Implementing measures to reduce water consumption and enhance biodiversity conservation near our operational sites.
  • Worker Well-being & Safety: Strengthening occupational health and safety programs to ensure a safer workplace and expanding our wellbeing programs.
  • Human Rights & Ethical Sourcing: Enhancing due diligence in our supply chain to align with ASI’s human rights and responsible sourcing expectations.
  • Employee & Community Engagement: Launching initiatives to educate employees on sustainability (e.g., our Meeting ASI Expectations videos) and deepen community engagement on environmental and social topics.

Embedding sustainability in culture and operations

EGA’s sustainability actions have had a significant impact across our operations, workforce, and industry collaborations. One of the most notable changes is the growing awareness and understanding of sustainability concepts among employees and stakeholders. Sustainability is now a topic of discussion, not an afterthought, with people not only appreciating its importance but also supporting initiatives such as Beach Clean Up and Biodiversity Awareness events in much greater numbers. There is a growing shift toward a culture of responsibility, with sustainability becoming more embedded in the way we work, plan, and collaborate. There is an increasing consciousness around reducing single-use items and responsible waste management practices. Additionally, research and innovation in decarbonisation have gained strong momentum. We are seeing increased efforts in exploring low-carbon technologies, circular economy solutions, and energy efficiency improvements to drive meaningful change.

Driving the next phase of ESG leadership

Building on our current achievements, EGA is committed to further embedding sustainability across our operations, stakeholders and communities. Our focus is on accelerating decarbonisation efforts, scaling up low-carbon aluminium production, and driving technological innovation to reduce emissions. We will continue to invest in circular economy solutions and partnerships, enhancing waste valorisation and resource efficiency, while expanding our nature conservation objectives and strengthening our commitment to human rights across both our workforce and supply chain.

Cultural transformation remains a key priority—deepening sustainability awareness and empowering employees to drive change from within. We aim to expand engagement initiatives, ensuring sustainability becomes second nature in decision-making at all levels.

Looking ahead, we are also strengthening collaborations across our value chain, working with suppliers, customers, and research partners to set new benchmarks for responsible aluminium production. By fostering global partnerships and industry-wide initiatives, we strive to lead in ESG excellence, ensuring a positive impact for generations to come.
