Key Updates to the ASI Claims Guide and Logos: What You Need to Know
The updated Claims Guide is effective from 1 March 2025, with a transition period for full implementation.

When does this come into effect?
The updated Claims Guide V4 is effective from 1 March 2025, with a transition period for full implementation:
- All new claims and existing off-product claims (e.g. website statements) should comply with the updated Guide by 1 August 2025
- Existing on-product claims (e.g. Responsible Aluminium Sourcing logo on packaging) should comply with the updated Guide by 31 December 2026. If more time is required to phase out existing products, this will be agreed on a case-by-case basis with ASI.

What has changed?
- Further information on ASI claims and phasing out the micro logo: All certification and product logos now include a mandatory weblink or an ASI QR code linking to further information on ASI claims. This will help prevent misleading claims and ensure all stakeholders are clear on what the ASI logos represent. As a result, the smallest current size of ASI logos (micro logo) will be phased out. A mini logo remains available for space-constrained products (see Section 2.5, Table 1).
- Clearer language around claims: The language around certification claims has been revised to remove vague or unsubstantiated statements and to clarify that ASI certification reflects an Entity’s commitment to responsible sourcing, not that certification alone guarantees responsible sourcing (see Section 5, Table 3).
- Clarification of Mass Balance The language for product-related claims has been updated to clarify the limitations of the mass balance model. Any product featuring the ASI logo or a claim must now include a weblink or an ASI QR code leading to a dedicated ASI webpage explaining ASI claims and the mass balance model (see Section 7).
- Non-certified customers making claims: For cases where non-certified customers wish to make ASI Claims, requirements have been clarified. In this case, the ASI Certified Supplier will oversee claim approvals and usage monitoring (see Section 7.4).
- Requirements for volume sourcing claims: Specific volume sourcing claims (such as ‘Company X sourced 10 tonnes of ASI Aluminium in 2023’) will require prior ASI approval. These claims will also require a weblink for further information on ASI claims and the mass balance model (see Section 7.3).
What does this mean for me?
Members who manufacture products that include the ASI Responsible Sourcing logo for their customers are advised to inform them of these updates as soon as possible.

Auditors – Updates to the Assurance Manual
An updated version of the Assurance Manual will be published in May 2025 to reflect the changes to the Claims Guide. As part of Chain of Custody Audits, we ask Auditors to enquire if Members are making claims that require approval from ASI (See Section 9 of the ASI Claims Guide). This will help ASI gain a clearer understanding of how Members are using these claims, allowing us to monitor trends in claim usage more effectively and provide better support.

Long-term outlook
The 2025-27 ASI Standards Revision process kicks off on 3 March 2025 and is expected to end with the publishing of the next versions of the ASI Standards (and supporting documentation) at the start of 2027. This revision will look at the further evolution of ASI claims, including potentially developing new categories of claims.
