The Circularity Working Group (CWG) convened for two productive meetings in June and July 2024, focusing on key areas to advance circular economy practices within the aluminium industry.
Integrating circular economy principles into bauxite mine closure planning.
In the meeting on 19th June, discussions centered on integrating circular economy principles into bauxite mine closure planning. Highlighting stakeholder engagement as a key element, the group proposed developing an anonymous questionnaire to assess the maturity level of current practices. CWG participants were reminded to provide final feedback on the guidelines by 26th July 2024.
Circular product design for downstream segments
In the subsequent meeting on 10th July, the focus shifted to circular product design for downstream segments, including automotive and packaging. The CWG reviewed a working paper detailing desired outcomes and maturity levels for circular product design, aiming to align design processes with sustainability objectives. CWG participants are encouraged to review the guidelines and provide feedback by 10th August 2024. Upon receiving and addressing feedback from CWG participants, both guidelines will be shared with the Standards Committee for adoption.
