ASI’s Board has approved a 12-month extension for all existing Performance Standard V3 Principle 1–4 (‘P1–4 Transition’) Certifications. The decision reflects the timing of the ongoing ASI Standards revision process and recognises that PS V4 will not yet be available by the original May 2027 transition deadline established under the ASI Assurance Manual.
The extension is particularly relevant for downstream and industrial aluminium users carrying out material conversion activities that currently qualify under the P1–4 transition approach. It also complements the extension provided to all currently certified Chain of Custody Entities, which revised CoC certificate expiry dates to 31 May 2028. Together, these measures are intended to provide Members and their Entities with greater flexibility to plan their transition to the next generation of ASI Standards, while supporting more efficient alignment of future Performance Standard and Chain of Custody audit cycles. The additional time is also intended to allow Members to consider future certification pathways under PS V4 and CoC V3 once final versions become available.
Under the approved approach, all existing P1–4 Certifications will automatically receive a 12-month extension to a revised expiry date of 31 May 2028. Existing Certifications with outstanding non-conformances will require a remote surveillance audit as part of the extension process, while Certifications not requiring surveillance will have their Certificate Audit Report updated administratively with the revised expiry date. These latter certificates have recently been uploaded as relevant to Members’ pages on the ASI website.
New P1–4 Certifications will continue to be permitted during the transition period, although all such Certifications will also carry a maximum expiry date of 31 May 2028. By that point, certified Entities will need to transition to one of three pathways: full PS V3 certification, full PS V4 certification, or a potential downstream version of PS V4 if introduced. ASI will communicate directly with affected Members and Lead Auditors regarding implementation arrangements and timing.
