Crown Holdings, Inc. has achieved ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) Certification at its Crown Colombiana S.A. production facilities in Tocancipá, Colombia. The facility produces aluminium can bodies for the beverage industry. This is the first facility in Colombia to attain ASI Certification.

Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that Crown Holdings, Inc’s Crown Colombiana S.A. facility has been certified against the ASI Performance Standard for the manufacturing of aluminium cans. Crown’s operations in Brazil, Mexico and Thailand have previously achieved ASI Performance Standard certification.

The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain. It sets out 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Environment, Social, and Governance, which address key issues such as biodiversity, labour rights, Indigenous Peoples rights, and greenhouse gas emissions.

The independent, third-party audit of Crown Colombiana S.A. was carried out by DNV Business Assurance Services UK Ltd. The audit took place prior to May 31, 2023, thus enabling a Performance Standard V2 certification. No non-conformances were identified.

“We warmly congratulate Crown for achieving ASI Performance Standard Certification at its Crown Colombiana S.A. production facilities, the first ASI Certified facility in Colombia. Their commitment to sustainability and catalysing action to embrace responsible and sustainable practices is evident in its growing list of certified facilities. We look forward to following Crown’s ongoing efforts to achieve ASI certification across its operating regions.”
