Jupiter Aluminum has achieved Chain of Custody Standard Certification for its scrap re-melting, cold rolling, annealing, and finishing operations in Hammond, Indiana, as well as its two coil coating facilities located in West Virginia and Indiana, USA. Jupiter Aluminum’s Hammond facility was the first in the USA to achieve ASI Performance Standard Certification in January 2020, and the two coil coating facilities were added to the certification scope in March 2021.

The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that Jupiter Aluminum has been successfully certified against the Chain of Custody (CoC) Standard for three facilities – two in Indiana and one in West Virginia, USA. Jupiter melts scrap aluminum to produce common alloy coils destined for various North American markets.

The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI CoC Standard sets out requirements for the creation of a Chain of Custody for material that is produced and processed through the value chain into diverse downstream sectors. The implementation of ASI’s CoC Standard links verified practices at successive steps of the supply chain – certified under the ASI Performance Standard – to the products produced by ASI Certified Entities.

The independent, third-party audits of the Jupiter Aluminum plants were carried out by DNV GL.

Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI said, “We warmly congratulate Jupiter Aluminum on their CoC Standard certification for their coil production and coating operations. We’re pleased to see the company continue to lead the way in the United States by achieving the first US-based ASI Chain of Custody Standard Certifications. The achievement of the Performance Standard and CoC Standard Certifications provides robust assurance to their customers that the company’s aluminium scrap-based products are produced following responsible practices.”

“We are very honored to be the first, fully US based re-melting, rolling, finishing and coating operation, to achieve Certification to the ASI Performance and Chain of Custody Standard across our entire Company. This confirms Jupiter’s long-lasting dedication to a more sustainable aluminum world. Certification to these Standards is much more than an achievement, it is also a fresh start with a commitment to keep improving”, said Paul-Henri Chevalier, CEO Jupiter Aluminum
