From May 13-15, the ASI team led or contributed to ten sustainability-focused sessions across 3 days at this annual conference co-hosted by CRU, ASI and the International Aluminium Institute (IAI). More than 350 attendees gathered in London for the 30th year of the event.
The theme of the conference was integration: through data and decision-making, sustainability and markets, and cross-cutting issues such as climate, nature, circularity and gender. These issues were considered against the backdrop of global geopolitical and economic volatility facing the sector as a whole and particular customer segments such as automotive. Industry specific risks in supply chains, evolving customer expectations and the impact of regulations were also a focus.
Support for ASI’s work was high. Members are proud of the work we have achieved together over our first ten years, but we are nevertheless looking ahead to how we navigate the next decade of challenges. These will include stepping up our work on the social dimensions of circularity, improving clarity and consistency of metrics for nature, and continuing to drive commitment and progress on decarbonisation. Projects and consultation on these and other topics will inform the work of our Standards Revision process for 2027, launched in March this year.
This was the 3rd year of collaboration between CRU, ASI and IAI for the conference, and builds on data and other collaborative projects between our organisations. These constructive relationships support a more informed aluminium value chain that can work together on key sustainability challenges and drive progress.
The 2026 conference will be 12-14 May 2026 in London and we aim to grow the participation of sustainability professionals amongst our members and stakeholders, to support exchange and capacity building. Mark the date in your calendars!
