Impol Group has achieved ASI Performance Standard certification for its smelting and casthouse operations in Bistrica, Slovenia. The facility’s activities include the design and production of rolled, extruded and drawn semi-product of aluminium alloys that are destined for use in pharmaceutical, food, transport, construction, aeronautical, aerospace and other sectors.

Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that the Impol Group facility in Bistrica, Slovenia has been successfully certified against the ASI Performance Standard for responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium. In 2019, the facility produced nearly 250,000 tonnes of rolling slabs and extrusion billets, sheets, strips, circles, trade plates, plain foils, extruded and drawn rods, tubes and wires, extruded profiles mechanical components and forged parts.

The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain. It sets out 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Governance, Environment and Social, which address key issues such as biodiversity, Indigenous Peoples rights, and greenhouse gas emissions. The independent, third-party audit of the Impol Group facility was carried out by Bureau Veritas Certification.

Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI said, “We warmly congratulate Impol Group on the ASI Performance Standard Certification of its Slovenia facility, the first to be certified in the country. With its 190 years of operations, its demonstrated commitment to responsible aluminium production, and broad range of products, the company is a cornerstone for sustainability to the many downstream sectors that it supplies.”

“We are proud to receive ASI Certification. It demonstrates our commitment to produce high value-added products in a responsible way. For Impol Group, sustainable development means responsible management, managing our social and environmental impacts on ecosystems, communities and people and driving resource efficiency in our products and processes”, stated Andrej Kolmanič, CEO of Impol Group.
