Press Metal International Ltd (PMI), a subsidiary of Press Metal has achieved ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) Certification with Provisional status for its Casthouse, Extrusion, Anodizing, Powder Coating, PVDF and fabricated extrusion profile production facility in Foshan City, Guangdong Province, China. The plant has a production capacity of 160,000 tonnes per annum.

Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that PMI has been certified against the ASI Performance Standard with Provisional status for the design and manufacturing of a range of Architectural and Industrial Aluminium Alloy Profiles, including Anodized Oxide Profiles, Electrophoretic Painting Profiles, Powder Spraying Profiles, Fluorocarbon Spraying Profiles, and Anti-thermal Profiles. The company’s extruded products are destined for applications in the automotive, ship building, electronics, and construction sectors.

The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain. It sets out 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Environment, Social, and Governance, which address key issues such as biodiversity, labour rights, Indigenous Peoples rights, and greenhouse gas emissions.

The independent, third-party audit of the PMI operation was carried out by TÜV Rheinland Cert GmbH.

“We congratulate Press Metal for achieving Performance Standard Certification with Provisional status for its extrusion operation in China. Responsible production is framed across a broad range of sustainability issues, going beyond addressing a single issue. PMI’s Provisional ASI Certification speaks to its commitment to pursue production practices aligned with industry leading ESG criteria, and provides a platform and direction for continuous improvement.”

– Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI

“PMI is committed and supportive of the entire sustainable aluminium value chain. Our low-content carbon aluminium extrusion products will contribute to a greener society. By aligning with ASI, we are confident our management system will be enhanced in a full-scale moving forward.”

– Mr. H.K. Lim, General Manager
