Laminazione Sottile Group has achieved ASI Performance Standard certification for the manufacturing of semi-finished aluminium coils and sheets. The three plants in Italy produce rolled aluminium for a wide range of applications, as well as aluminium foils, coils, sheets and circles in several alloys and dimensions.

Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that Laminazione Sottile Group has been successfully certified against the ASI Performance Standard for responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium at the Laminazione Sottile rolling plant, coil coating at Italcoat plant, and coating/printing at IPS – Industrial Packaging Solution plant, all in Italy. The plants’ materials are destined for packaging, automotive, building, HVAC-R, cookware and other applications.

The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain. It sets out 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Governance, Environment and Social, which address key issues such as biodiversity, Indigenous Peoples rights, and greenhouse gas emissions.

The independent, third-party audit of the Laminazione Sottile Group facilities was carried out by Bureau Veritas Certification.

Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI said, “We warmly congratulate Laminazione Sottile Group on achieving ASI Performance Standard Certification for these three facilities in Italy. The wide range of applications for the plants’ rolled and foil products in multiple downstream industries demonstrates the importance of responsible production practices in the aluminium rolling sector. We greatly appreciate the company’s continued commitment to sustainability and ASI in a challenging period of the pandemic.”

Massimo Moschini, President of Laminazione Sottile Group, said “Gaining the ASI certification for three of our plants shows once more our commitment to guarantee a supply chain that is sustainable on the social, environmental and governance side. Laminazione Sottile Group is deply rooted in the lasting bond with the territory and community: to us, fostering a sustainable economy model means paying attention to the environment surrounding us and to future generations.”
